Refuse to Sink

There are moments when becoming more fully yourself is not about pushing harder. It is about refusing to disappear beneath the weight of what no longer belongs to you.

In Refuse to Sink, a woman floats almost effortlessly through a Palm Springs pool, her dress spreading beneath the surface like another landscape. Her eyes are closed. There is no struggle, no performance, no attempt to prove anything.

The title carries a contradiction I love: refusing to sink doesn’t have to look like fighting.

Sometimes it looks like trust. Sometimes it is releasing the weight, allowing yourself to be carried, and discovering that the life that fits you best may feel lighter than the one you were trying so hard to hold together.

She isn’t surviving the water.

She has remembered how to float.
