Oil Painting - "Was It About the Cake?”

Original Oil Painting | 12 × 12 inches

Was It About the Cake?

A cake can mean almost anything depending on the moment.

It can mark a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, a beginning, an ending, or absolutely nothing at all. It can be extravagant or cheap, carefully chosen or grabbed at the last minute. But somehow, it still carries a little emotional weight.

That’s what makes cake interesting. It becomes part object, part gesture, part symbol. The cake itself is simple. Everything we attach to it is not.

Sometimes the object becomes a stand-in for the emotion underneath it.

So was it about the cake?

Probably not.

But then again, maybe a little bit, it was.
